From NativTxn (Denise E. Vajdak) I came up with a little contest for February, just for fun (and a couple
of prizes). Check it out and challenge yourself to think outside the
cache box. Diversified Cacher Contest By NativTxn This contest period will run through February 29, 2012. Complete as many of the tasks listed below as possible. All finds, hides, etc. must take place on or after February 1, 2012 unless otherwise stated. You will have until March 7, 2012 to return your entry form to me. The Wonderful Wizard of Oz Geocaching Event
What is Geocaching?
Geocaching is a 21st Century scavenger hunt. Containers,
called "geocaches" or "caches" are hidden and participants must use
various means to locate them.
What is a cache?
A typical cache is a small waterproof

find the cache take a sticker out of the container and put it on your
geocaching card.
How do I participate?
Pick up a copy of the story or download a copy here!
Then, visit the library and pick-up a geocaching card at the check-out
desk. The follow the clues in the story until you have found all twelve!
WHEN
Saturday, January 28th 12 noon through 2pm, with a costume contest at 1pm.

February 29 - This Day in Geocaching History (article republished from Latitude 47 geocaching.com blog) In the 11 years and 9 months since the first geocache was placed, there is single date on which only a small fraction of geocachers have ever logged a cache. We suspect that's because this particular date has only happened twice in geocaching history; it's February 29, also known as leap day. Given our penchant for all things that leap (frogs, horses, excited geocachers), we wanted to mark the third leap day in geocaching history — February 29, 2012 — by seeing how many accounts can log a cache that day. Last February 29, way back in 2008, 36,696 distinct accounts logged an "Attended" or "Found it" on a cache. Given the growth of the geocaching community since then, we think we can double that number this year. But 73,392 distinct accounts logging a cache is a lofty goal; it's the second highest number of accounts to log a cache in a single day. The current record, 78,313, was set on 10/10/10. Considering that 10/10/10 was a Sunday and February 29 will be a Wednesday, it is going to require a huge push to reach our goal. So, talk to your fellow geocachers, your friends, and your co-workers about going geocaching (and logging their find) on February 29. In order to count toward the goal, people only have to log a single cache. Everyone who logs a "Found it" or "Attended" this February 29 will receive the Leap Day Souvenir on their profile. As an added bonus, Premium Members who love to look at their "finds by date" statistics most likely see a blank square on the calendar on February 29. This is your chance to fill in the square —the 366th day of geocaching! |

A note from Bigguy In Texas
If you have been wanting to get this cache, but can not climb trees very well, or have a handicap that would prevent you being able to climb the tree -- come attend the mob and the friendly folks will go up and retrieve the log for you to sign! "Boogerbear" Flash Mob
An Event cache by Bigguy In Texas
Event Date: 02/29/2012
Coordinates: N30° 31.718 W097° 37.889
Yes, ANOTHER leap year event! There SHOULD be a lot of them considering how seldom this day comes around!
This idea was inspired by Team Scooby-Doo and will be a 15 minute Flash Mob to give everyone to have enough time to get to the other events that start at 6 p.m. Everyone drive up to GZ at exactly 5:30 p.m. If you get there early just park in one of the many other spaces away from GZ. I will be parked at GZ with the tools needed to take a group picture.
We will only stay for 15 minutes and then you can go to one of two parties (or both!) that start at 6 p.m. They are GC39DD2 and GC32MTR.
I hope to see you there! |
