NEW WALL AREA IN THE BARTON CREEK GREENBELT TEMPORARILY CLOSED

The Austin Parks and Recreation Department is temporarily closing the "The New Wall Area" in the Barton Creek Greenbelt, south of the Spyglass trail entrance. This area is popular with wall climbing enthusiasts and hikers. The trail next to this area has been rerouted for public safety reasons. Temporary fencing and signage have been installed instructing the public to stay out of the area.

The Department is temporarily closing the "New Wall area" because the wall is showing signs of structural instability, has developed large cracks and is shifting. The Department is currently working with Watershed Protection geologists and is looking for solutions to make the area safe for greenbelt park patrons. Criminal trespassing into this area could lead to arrest. Patrons are urged not to enter the area for their own safety.
